These two things are quite possibly my favorite parts of the classroom economy!
Checks
This check system was created by Mrs. Lyon and you can get your copy on TPT for $4.00 by clicking on the image to the left. You can see where I personalized the bank name, address, and jazzed up a few of the fonts. I can't help it... Mrs. Lyon also includes a video that explains each document and how to put it all together! |
It is really an awesome tool. You start off with the Excel spreadsheet where you add names, job titles, and salaries. Then you use mail merge to create the earnings statements and checks you see above. Ah-mazing!
It is so easy to use. I personalized mine a bit. I love that it takes out taxes. Real world applications here! You should see the outrage when they realize they aren't getting their entire salary the first pay day. It's awesome.

Bank Notes are available for you to print. Each one will have a unique code that a student will enter and then it will be invalid. You can hand these out for good behavior or good deeds. I have not used these because I have class cash.
I authorized three students to be bank tellers, these are my bankers. They take care of almost all transactions. This year I will only let bankers make deposits and withdrawals. That way I don't have to watch all the accounts like a hawk. I did have an instance four years ago when a student decided to deposit some "extra" money in their account. That was not fun to deal with. :)
Another idea:
I printed off the "bank statement" as a way to show parents their child's behavior that month since they would get bonuses for good behavior and fines for bad.
